Yándary (Zavala) Chatwick

BS Political Science
Executive Director of Communications and Community Relations
Salt Lake City School District

Yándary recently moved back to Utah after five years in Washington, DC to take on the role of Communications Director for the Utah Democratic Party. She was previously Deputy Communications Director for Voto Latino, a non-partisan national nonprofit focused on using digital tools to bring 18-34 year old, English-speaking Latino Millennials into the US political process. At Voto Latino, Yándary led the organization's Affordable Care Act digital campaign; spoke to local and national news outlets on behalf of the organization; conducted trainings on digital organizing; and participated in meetings with White House, Cabinet, and elected officials.

Before her time at VL, Yándary worked as a Policy Associate for SACNAS, as Director of Hispanic Outreach for Rob Garagiola for Congress (MD-6), and for the Ibarra Strategy Group in Washington, DC. She also served as an LDS missionary in Oakland, California.

Yándary was born in El Salvador and raised in Riverdale, Utah, where she got her first taste of political involvement on the town's Youth City Council. She studied Political Science at the University of Utah (she's also a proud Hinckley Institute alum!) and Political Management at The George Washington University's Graduate School of Political Management. You can find her on Twitter at @yandary.
