Sustainability Pledge

Sustainability Pledge for Green Cords:

Being the Solution as a College of Social and Behavioral Science student continues beyond graduation, and you can show that commitment by taking the Sustainability Pledge! The Sustainability Pledge asks individuals to consider the impacts their job and lifestyle has on society and the environment and encourages them to improve both of these aspects through individual and collective actions. Those who commit to The Sustainability Pledge and who study with participating colleges may pick up a green cord to wear at commencement and convocation to symbolize their commitment.

CSBS Cap and Gown Recycling Program

We are looking to grow this program to collect University of Utah cap and gowns for future College of Social & Behavioral Science (CSBS) students to use who are in financial need and cannot afford the price of a cap and gown. We also want to commit to reducing waste, instead of caps and gowns ending up in landfills or in the back of closets unused.

To Receive a Recycled Cap and/or Gown

Join us at the Graduation Extravaganza Event on March 25th from 10am-2pm at the Alumni House. Caps, Gowns, and stoles in our program will be available first-come, first-served.

Note: sizes are limited, as this program is based on donations from previous students. If you’d like to see an increased inventory, please see the “donation” section below!

Donations

If you have interest in donating your used cap and gown for future graduation ceremonies, we are taking donations!

Eligibility:

  • Must have a University of Utah cap and gown in good condition (no stains, rips or tears)
  • Agree for the cap and/or gown to be recycled for future use for CSBS graduates

Where to donate:

  • CSBS Deans Office in GC 3725 during business hours at our front desk (between 9am-3pm Monday-Thursday)
  • Your donation requires a sticky note or paper attached with your height so we can correctly size gowns for the future

If you have questions about the program or how caps and gowns will be reused, please contact ally.marringa@csbs.utah.edu. Congrats on graduating!
