Student Ambassadors
In its fourth year as an established team, the CSBS Student Ambassadors were put to work as they were once again charged with helping out the college in a number of strategic activities including student philanthropy, recruitment and engagement. The team didn’t waste any time, quickly jumping on the tasks they were given by organizing several projects and events throughout the year.
The ambassadors began the school year with a kickoff to football season, hosting a tailgate for the U vs. USC game on October 4 that brought together students, faculty, staff and alumni. Immediately following, they coordinated a community engagement day to celebrate President Pershing’s Inauguration. Students were given the opportunity to either bowl with refugee students from East High or volunteer to read with students at Bennion Elementary School. Through this initiative, the Bennion Elementary project became an ongoing volunteering program and stimulated student involvement throughout the college. The ambassadors also started a fundraiser in hopes of raising money toward a new playground for the school.
In March, the university recognized the team for their outstanding work and presented them with the Commitment to Service Award. And as the year progressed, they continued to bring students together with variety of events including a movie night, a spring community engagement day, and even coordinated a panel discussion at the Hinckley Institute of Politics titled “Research & U” that highlighted the importance of getting involved with research on campus. They finally rounded out the year with the Bennion Center’s annual event known as Project Youth, which brings elementary students to campus for a day of exploration.
With the continued success of the student ambassador program and another academic year soon approaching, a new team will join the college initiative in boosting student philanthropy, recruitment and engagement.
